Color, Culture, Continuum – An Asian American Mosaic: A Juried Photography Show
About the Exhibition
The Asian American Museum at Great Park (AAMGP) is announcing a Juried Photo Art Contest to celebrate storied images of Asian American life. We are creating a visual that highlights our vibrant Southern California Community by inviting photo artists to express their individual and/or shared interpretations of Asian America through their lenses.
Just as a mosaic is composed of countless unique pieces that, together, create a singular work of art, so too is the Asian American experience. Our identity is not a monolith, but a fluid diverse, multiracial, multigenerational spectrum.
This juried photography exhibition showcases the diverse Asian American experience through the lenses of both professional and amateur photographers. Our distinguished judges include professional photographers, artists, photo educators, and members of the media.
The exhibition celebrates the mosaic of Asian American identity - fluid, diverse, multiracial, and multigenerational. Join us in witnessing how photographers interpret and capture the vibrancy of our Southern California community.
The exhibition will feature winning photographs and selected submissions displayed at Bowers Museum from May 20 - 28 in the John M. Lee Court.

Kim Chapin
Kim Chapin has a sharp eye for great photojournalism and is passionate about good storytelling. She spent 18 years as Deputy director of photography at the Boston Globe. Chapin was a member of the Boston Globe team awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Gong Cheng
Gong Cheng has been a juror for multiple China and international photography competitions, and is an experienced visual storyteller whose career spans major global sporting events including the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups, and Formula One. He continues to cover NFL and NBA games in LA, applying a strong editorial perspective to his work.

Hiroshi Watanabe
Hiroshi Watanabe has made a name for himself as a master storyteller through his captivating photographs. His ability to showcase diverse subjects such as Kabuki actors, historical artifacts from Tule Lake, and powerful images taken around the world, demonstrates his versatility and passion for exploring different narratives through his art. His photographs have been displayed at museums internationally and here at the J. Paul Getty Museum and LACMA.
