Cousins Playing Mah Jong
This picture shows 3 cousins, all in their early 20's, playing mah jong. All of the cousins are hapa haole, half Japanese and half caucasian. This was taken at their grandmother's house, and behind them is an art piece of 1000 origami cranes. This image means more to me than just a candid shot. It represents family, cultural roots, and the blending of traditions that shape who we are. I edited this image intentionally to feel timeless, vintage, and nostalgic.
Jake - A Soccer Portrait
I chose this "sportrait" of Jake because it captures both athleticism and identity in one powerful moment. As a Filipino American athlete, he represents Asian Americans who are often underrepresented in sports. This image challenges stereotypes and highlights strength, skill, and determination. Freezing him mid-air symbolizes breaking barriers and expanding visibility for Asian Americans in athletics.
